The Dow Jones Industrial Average saw losses deepen midday Wednesday, briefly setting the blue-chip index on pace for its worst one-day decline since April, according to FactSet data. At its lows, the Dow (^DJI) fell by more than 430 points, or 1.6%, before edging back somewhat. Most recently, the index was off by about 380 points, or 1.5%, at 26,045. A decline greater than 392 points would represent the Dow’s worst single-session point drop since April 6 when it fell 572 points or 2.3%. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index (^GSPC) was sinking 1.4% at 2,841 and the Nasdaq Composite Index (^IXIC) gave up 2.1% to 7,576.
