At least 19 people aboard an Emirates flight from Dubai to New York were confirmed to be sick after the flight was quarantined at John F. Kennedy Airport on Wednesday morning, according to the New York City mayor’s office.
As many as 100 passengers and crew members aboard Emirates Flight 203, an Airbus A388 carrying about 500 passengers, had complained of feeling ill prior to landing at the Queens, N.Y., hub at 9:10 a.m. EDT, the CDC previously said in a statement.
Ten of the 19 confirmed sick passengers were taken to hospitals for treatment with symptoms including a cough and fever. Nine others declined further medical attention, according to Raul Contreras, a spokesman for the mayor’s office.

Earlier, an Emirates spokeswoman had said that only 10 passengers on the flight were affected by the sickness.
“Emirates can confirm that about 10 passengers on board flight EK203 from Dubai to New York were taken ill,” the spokeswoman said. “On arrival at JFK, as a precaution, they were immediately checked by local health authorities and those needing medical attention will be attended to.”

Eric Phillips, a spokesman for Mayor Bill de Blasio, tweeted on Wednesday morning that the flight had stopped in Mecca, which is currently experiencing a flu outbreak.
Passenger Erin Sykes tweeted a video from inside the aircraft, which appears to show panicked passengers being asked to remain in their seats by an Emirates flight attendant.
